Healthy Recipes: Homemade Herbal Salt

Whether it’s a finishing touch for vegetables, in homemade spreads or on a healthy piece of bread – our homemade herbal salt is a fine addition to numerous dishes. And the best part – homemade herbal salt is not only very healthy, but consists of only a few ingredients and is very quick to prepare. Depending on the season and your preferences, you can prepare your herbal salt with different herbs and spices individually. We have refined our recipe variant of the herbal salt with parsley, basil, chives, thyme, rosemary and marjoram.

You will notice that homemade herbal salt is much more aromatic and high quality than store-bought herbal salt. The common herbal salts from the supermarket often do not contain high-quality sea salt and consist of powder with added flavors.

Always and in any case we recommend you to buy herbs in organic quality, so that your herbal salt is free of pesticides and other harmful substances. You can also easily grow herbs in your own garden.

There are no limits to your taste buds when it comes to ingredients – try out which combinations are perfect for you.

Ingredients for the Herbal Salt

  • 750 g sea salt (coarse)
  • 1 bunch of fresh parsley
  • 1 bunch of fresh basil
  • 1 bunch of fresh chives
  • 1 bunch of fresh thyme
  • 1 bunch of fresh rosemary
  • 1 bunch of fresh marjoram

Preparation of the Herb Salt

Step 1
Preheat the oven to 150 degrees.

Step 2
Wash all the herbs thoroughly and then spin them dry well. This is best done with a salad spinner.

Step 3
Pluck the leaves well and cut them into coarse pieces.

Step 4
Put 400 g of sea salt with the herbs in a blender and grind until you get a paste. Then add the remaining 360 g of sea salt.

Step 5
Line a baking tray with baking paper and spread the mixture on it. Now turn off the oven and leave the baking sheet in the oven overnight. The oven door should be slightly open so that the herbal salt can dry well.

Step 6
You can put the finished herbal salt in the blender again after drying, if you want to have a finer salt. Afterwards, you can fill your homemade herbal salt into jars.

Tip:
You can also use other herbs such as dill, chervil, lovage or coriander. Depending on taste and season, you can vary the ingredients and make your very own herb mixture.
